Can the filter be removed or bypassed? No — the filtering is part of the device configuration, not an app someone can delete. That's the difference between a filtered phone and a regular phone with parental controls.
Can I change levels later? Yes. As life changes, we reconfigure the same phone to a different level rather than selling you a new one.
Does GPS navigation work on a filtered phone? Yes — Level 4 includes Waze, fully functional, with the rest of the internet still blocked. Kosher phone navigation is one of the most common reasons people choose Level 4.
Can I make my current iPhone or Android kosher instead? Filtering software or parental controls on a regular smartphone can be turned off, reset around, or outgrown — that is why community standards ask for a device where the browser and app store are removed or sealed at the system level. A phone that starts as a smartphone generally cannot be sealed to that standard; the practical route is a phone built or configured as kosher from the start.
Do kosher phones have Wi-Fi or a hotspot? The only kosher phone we sell that can be set up with hotspot capability is the Megalife — and even then, reach out to us first to discuss your options and your community's standard. Our other phones do not offer a hotspot. The approved apps on Level 4 phones (Waze, weather, zmanim) run over your regular cellular data.
Can I listen to music or shiurim — 24Six — on a kosher phone? 24Six is available only on the Megalife Zen f1. On other phones, the Talk + Media configurations (for example the TCL Flip 2 "Talk Only With Media") include a music player you load files onto. Spotify is not offered on any kosher phone we sell.
Does Talk & Text allow picture messages (MMS)? It depends on the model — on some phones picture messaging can be switched off so a Talk & Text phone is plain text only, on others it comes with texting. Tell us the school or yeshiva rule and we'll match it before the phone ships.
